A little something encouraging.....

Postby Suz MamaFrog on Fri Nov 06, 2009 4:32 pm

I ran across this while doing some research today:

Whatever you focus on will grow. If you nurture your failings and faults, they'll grow. If you nurture your strengths and successes, they'll grow. It makes sense, therefore, to nurture and focus on your strong points. In doing that, your weaknesses will become less of a problem, as you will be gaining the strengths needed to overcome them.

It's takes a bit of positive thinking, a small amount of positive "self-speak," and a whole lot of self-love. I could go for some more of that!! Anyone want to join me?

Blessings and encouragement,
Suz

BTW, the above quote comes from some literature on Adult ADD/ADHD. Guess who's focusing on her weaknesses today?? :D

Kelly,

It's more than just your thought life, though that is a big part of it.

They go on to say that you should focus your attention on activities and tasks that you do well. Start your day off with at least one thing that you can do well, then tackle the more difficult items. Also, they suggest fostering good habits that you already have, instead of trying to "fix" everything that's wrong with you all the time. When you do want to work on something new/difficult/challenging to you, set reasonable goals. If you want to work up to exercising daily, start with once or twice or a week. When you can manage that with regularity, increase by another day. And so on unti you've reached your goal. Don't try to focus on all the bad stuff and ignore all the good, because it will be the good traits/habits/abilities that will eventually help you to overcome or cope with the negative traits/habits/abilities.

Yes, it can be a slow process, but you didn't become who you are overnight or in a month or even in a year. Don't expect to change who you are in such a short amount of time, either.

Blessings!
Suz
