The Blood Type Diet????

Postby Celia on Fri Oct 30, 2009 11:06 pm

I recently went to a DO, and he's an advocate of the Blood Type Diet. Knowing that some foods do affect the coagulation of your blood, I think it does make some sense anyway.

Has anyone tried it?

According to the plan, with my blood type, I should basically be a vegetarian. :p In general, veggies are my least favorite food in the world.....other than corn on the cob or green beans, I only eat veggies to set a good example for the kids. :blush:

The diet does allow me to have chicken and turkey and also some fish (but of course I hate fish! :D )

Anyway, I'm curious to know what others think of the diet...is it a bunch of hooey or does it really work? :confused:

Celia....I don't know if it works or not, but my general feeling is that I can't imagine God creating us to eat according to our blood types. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I agree that it seems silly. It doesn't match what we know about nutrition.

PS. But you should still eat your veggies! :rofl:

Basically it is a diet (formulated by immunologists) that says when you eat foods containing certain proteins that are incompatible with your blood type antigen, the protein lectins target an organ / bodily system and begin to cause the red blood cells to group together in that area.
My rheumatologist also advised me to try it...I have researched it, but I am not convinced...I agree with Marcy and Jimmie... I can't imagine that being in God's great plan for our nutrition... but it apparently has been having some effect for alot of diseases like:
arthritis, both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis;
asthma;
atherosclerosis;
congestive heart failure;
high blood pressure;
diabetes;
chronic fatigue;
fibromyalgia;
all forms of IBS, (Crohn's, colitis, celiac)

This website has alot info, such as what foods can be eaten by blood type... http://www.drlam.com/

I would have to be a vegetarian also and as my family and friends know, I LOVE MEAT!!! :eek: :eek:
Which is #2 reason I don't think it would work for me... :D

Well, glad y'all are thinking along the lines I am. :D

It didn't make sense to me for people of long ago to eat according to something they didn't know. But I am wondering if God didn't make people back then bent toward foods that were just better for their body. Like craving something because your body is deficient in a vitamin or nutrient it provides (and no, I'm not talking craving a hot fudge sundae). Maybe type A's were just naturally bent toward more fruits and veggies and didn't really care much for meat. :confused:

As Lisa mentioned, autoimmune issues *may* be helped with this diet and the doctor recommended it. I figure it can't really hurt to give it a try. I'm not sure I could follow *any* diet 100%, but I do know I need to eat healthier and I definitely need to eat more veggies.

God did give us fruits and veggies and grains before He gave us meat....maybe Adam and Eve were blood type As. :lol:

I do think that for healthy people who aren't addicted to food, cravings ARE signals of a body's need. I listen to those cravings. For me it's dairy products and leafy green veggies most often. Makes sense as I do need more calcium!

I read a tad on it last night when I saw your first post, and it looks like common good nutrition sense overall. They do focus on certain things for the different blood types, but telling people to eat more fish or more fiber isn't revolutionary! I think that following any one of the blood type diets is probably healthy. I didn't see ice cream or Doritos on any list. :rofl: I mean, it's sort of like a horoscope. The predictions are general enough to be true for most anyone. I think their diet plans are the same.

Cute!

And I do think that everyone is different. I thought the Carb Addict idea was most interesting because it seems to play out in reality. My husband can gain weight just looking at a doughnut. But I eat lots of carbs. And that whole thing is based on how the body processes sugar, very scientific.

Have you read any of Hulda Clark's books? I am on the waiting list at the library for her...
I also ordered "Pain Erasure" by Bonnie Pruden and "Healthy Habits" by David Frahm from Amazon...
I am hoping to glean some things from them... I'll let you know about them after I read them... :thumb:
